Application: Children’s Playspace at Milano Design Week
For the 2024 edition of ‘A Casa Ovunque’, an annual design and lifestyle event that takes place during Milan Design Week, the Madoti Kids Lab created an imaginative retreat for children under the direction of The Playful Living & RCS Media Group. The theme for the year, ‘Human Technology’, invited visitors to explore immersive environments which highlight how materials and furnishings can shape the way we live, work, rest and connect. Special attention was given to sustainability and technology, but above all to people, and a new way of living everyday life.
At the heart of The Kids Space is Organoid Natural Surfaces, enriching the space with colour, texture and scent. The vision of the designer, Valentina Bianco, was to craft an environment that is not only visually appealing but also stimulates the senses. For this project, Organoid was specifically chosen to provide a multisensory experience, encouraging the use of touch, sight and smell when interacting with the design.
“Nature, in its perfection, has already created everything we can imagine, and I wanted to honour that by bringing natural elements into the child’s environment. By doing so, I aimed to foster a space that not only stimulates the senses but also nurtures a deeper bond with the natural world.”
Children understand and explore the world through sensory experiences and physical activity. Hence the goal with Kid Space was to create an environment that fully engaged all the senses, with children free to move and explore their surroundings. Such a space helps children develop not only cognitively but also physically and emotionally, by fostering within them their natural curiosity.
To bring her vision to life, Organoid Natural Surfaces in Cornflower Blue and Alpine Meadow, both on flax backing, was integrated into the furniture design and play equipment. The gentle production process of Organoid allows the surfaces to retain most of their natural properties, like fragrance, feel and visual appeal.
As a product with sustainability and connection to nature at its heart, spaces created with Organoid Natural Surfaces become more than just physical environments; they become places where imagination, learning, and growth flourish in harmony with nature.
