🏆 Staron Design Award Winner 2023 – Commercial Category
The vision for James Cook University was to transform this undercover area into a more inviting and appealing space for both students and teachers. The fusion of vibrant colours and curved seating arrangements has created an uplifting environment that entices individuals to relax and savour their surroundings. Whether it’s a moment of quiet reflection or a gathering with peers and colleagues, this space adeptly caters to a wide range of needs.
During the design process, as the team explored various surface options, the limitations of some materials became evident. Shane, with his extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in working with Staron Solid Surfaces within residential and commercial sectors, provided invaluable guidance. This transformative approach allowed the team to fully harness the advantages of solid surface materials and bring their creative vision to life.
Opting for the vibrant orange shade, they chose Staron California Poppy as the ideal material for the curved seats and 15-degree sloping backrests, beautifully designed with a captivating blend of convex and concave shapes. The use of Sanded Tundra for the seat base, a dark contrasting colour, imparted a floating appearance to the seats, creating the illusion of reduced bulk.
The results achieved with the use of Staron Solid Surface in this application are truly impressive and represent a significant enhancement for the University’s environment.
