Frequently Asked Questions
What are natural surfaces from Organoid?
A gentle production process allows the surface to retain most of their natural properties, such as their fragrance, feel, optics, and allow a multi-sensorial experience.
Note – product can vary within batch lots.
How sustainable are Organoid Natural Surfaces and where are they produced?
Organoid prefer to use natural and authentic raw materials that are usually not processed in conventional manufacturing. Attention is also given to the impact of transportation, favouring the shortest transfer distances in our region for sourcing materials.
The natural materials are visually appealing from the face surfaces and go through to the backing materials made from flax and FSC certified papers.
How long does the scent of a natural surface last?
The intensity of the scent depends heavily on the temperature, humidity, and air exchange rate at the place of use as well as your personal sense of smell (habituation effect). Over time, this fragrance intensity decreases continuously. In the case of rose blossoms and vanilla, for example, a decrease in fragrance above the perception limit is only to be expected after a period of several years. Particularly with strongly scenting surfaces, it must be considered that the scent intensity can be reduced by an additional sealing or painting of the surface.
Can I backlight Organoid Natural Surfaces?
In fact many of the designs in the collection allow some degree of lighting throughout if applied to back-lit surfaces. Depending on the thickness of the surface material and different backings there can be various levels of light penetrates across the range.
What areas of design can I use Organoid surfaces?
Can I request a custom order?
What is the minimum purchase quantity for products in the stock collection?
Rolled goods:
Available from 1 linear metre for the first metre and 0.5 linear metre increments after the first metre
Single sheet designs:
Available only as a full sheet at 2,950mm x 1,360mm
Minimum Order Quantity: 1 sheet
Non-stocked product:
Allow for an approximate lead time of 4 weeks
Minimum Order Quantity: 10 sheets
Note: The request must meet the Minimum Order Quantity requirements
How can I make the natural surfaces even more durable?
To obtain increased protection against moisture or abrasion, most natural surfaces with a high density of raw materials can usually be varnished, oiled, waxed, impregnated, or even used under glass. If sealing is required, we recommend the Adler lacquers “Lignovit Terra” and “Aqua Resist” – but experience has shown that conventional acrylic and PU lacquers also achieve good results. In any case, preliminary testing is recommended with the respective coating agent on edge or remnant pieces.
Note: Some raw materials contain natural oils or fats that make it difficult or impossible to apply a coating.
MOUS: In the case of natural surfaces with moss, temporary changes in the surface may occur under certain climatic conditions. Due to physical processes, small salt crystals can form on the surface at a relative humidity below 40%. These crystals are of natural origin and are not hazardous to health. Moreover, they can simply be removed carefully with a damp cloth.
We recommend against the use of varnishes or oils to seal the natural surfaces of MOUS HELLGRIAN. Embracing their natural state allows them to thrive and maintain their unique beauty.
Even in its compressed state, the natural moss largely retains its property of storing room humidity and slowly releasing it back into its environment. This has a positive effect on the indoor climate. The feel of the moss can change due to changing room humidity: With increased room humidity, the surface appears softer and more supple; with low room humidity, it appears harder and more brittle. This is the natural behaviour of moss.
We advise against sealing the natural surfaces of MOUS HELLGRIAN and MOUS DUNKLGRIAN with varnishes or oils.
What is the recommended bending radius of Organoid Natural Surfaces?
On Natural Flax Fleece non-woven or Self-Adhesive film, bending radii of only a few millimetres are possible. It is recommended to assess an individual test.
Quality & Warranty claims
Note: Organoid natural surface is required to acclimatise pre installation over a 24-hour period.
What is the product life expectancy of Organoid Natural Surfaces?
Just like many laminates, vinyl flooring and timber products, direct sunlight is not recommended.
How can I clean Organoid surfaces?
- Gently vacuum with low pressure.
- Premium surfaces: wipe down with a damp cloth.
- Light & Medium surfaces: gently wipe down with a dry, lint-free cloth.
- Avoid rough brushes, aggressive cleaning agents and chemicals.
For Organoid light on Natural Flax Fleece non-woven and Ecofleece:
Special care must be taken when cleaning. These are characterised by an open scatter look and low fibre density. Due to the likewise lower binder quantity, the fibres of these surfaces react particularly sensitively to moisture fluctuations. We therefore strongly advise against wiping the surface of Organoid light products with a damp cloth.
Note: Due to the moisture absorption of the Natural Flax Fleece non-woven and Ecofleece during wallpapering, the plant fibres become flexible for a short time, but also dry up again. Careful brushing of the surface should therefore only be carried out when it is completely dry.
Organoid flooring:
The floor panels, which are already provided with a PU sealant on delivery, can be vacuumed and cleaned with all standard household grease-dissolving cleaning agents with a damp cloth. Please make sure not to wipe too wet, especially in the joints. To close the joints and meet higher requirements, we recommend the “2K Duo matt” coating system as an additional, subsequent sealant.
What is the thickness of natural surfaces?
- Self-Adhesive film
- Natural Flax Fleece non-woven
- Ecofleece
- Glue-down flooring panel
- Click system flooring panel
What sizes do the natural surfaces come in?
Rolled goods on Natural Flax Fleece non-woven or Ecofleece as well as on Self-Adhesive film from the stock collection have a regular width of 1.360 mm, and can be ordered in any continuous length from just 1 Linear meter (1.36m2 square meters).
Some designs in the range are only available as a full cut sheet length being 2.950mm x 1.360mm.
The edge tolerance is 1-2 mm. For a wallpaper installation, we recommend a double cut technique to realise edges with almost un-visible joints.
How will the panels be packed and delivered?
Larger purchase quantities of the wallpaper are shipped as rolls on pallets.
Is there much variation in designs across batches?
During the production of the natural surfaces, up to 100 parameters are set and monitored to ensure maximum quality and are largely consistent in appearance. Due to the natural raw materials and their partly manual processing, the colour and appearance of the same product series may vary slightly. This begins with seasonal differences in the growth of the plants and ends with the environmental conditions under which the fibres are processed (temperature, humidity, etc.)
Therefore, we always recommend checking samples of current batches and that you confirm when products from one and the same batch for sensitive areas of application such as large-scale wall designs are required.
Can individual natural fibres detach from the surface?
Fibres loosened during assembly/gluing can only be removed with a soft brush or dry cloth after the Organoid product has dried. The possible detachment of the fibres is due to the absorption of the adhesive moisture and is a natural behaviour of the fibres.
Note: It is important to bear in mind that individual particles can be detached from the natural surface if it is exposed to wear and tear through frequent touching. This applies, among other things, to deeply structured surfaces such as LAWENDL, PFEFFARMINZ or DINCKL. In this case, please note the possibility of a swallowing hazard, especially for small children. If considering Organoid surfaces for use in day-care centres, we recommend an additional coating of the natural surface.
Can Organoid Natural Surfaces cause allergies?
No. Once the natural materials are processed into the finished Organoid surface, testing results indicated no allergenic emissions were detected from the final product.
